The Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) education department develops and administers, for the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA), the pre-licensing courses required to become a licensed agent or broker in Alberta. AREA also develops and implements continuing education courses. The first step towards obtaining your real estate agent's license and registration is to complete the Real Estate Agents' Program. You may do this by attending the 90-hour classroom course at Mount Royal College or the Calgary Real Estate Board (at least 90% attendance is required), or by distance delivery. To graduate, you must pass the Provincial Qualifying Exam for agents with a grade of 70% or better. More information on the Real Estate Agents' Program can be obtained from the AREA website.
